Best Day Trips from Nairobi

Nairobi's location in East Africa's most spectacular safari landscape makes it one of the world's best positioned cities for day trip wildlife experiences. The Nairobi National Park, uniquely situated just 7km from the city centre, allows visitors to see lions, rhinos, giraffes, and buffalo against a backdrop of the Nairobi skyline — one of the world's most surreal wildlife viewing experiences.

The Giraffe Centre in Lang'ata allows up-close feeding encounters with endangered Rothschild giraffes. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage is one of Africa's most moving wildlife experiences. The Great Rift Valley viewpoints at Limuru and Kikuyu are just 30 minutes from the city. The Ngong Hills offer hiking with panoramic views over the Rift Valley and provide the setting for Karen Blixen's famous memoir "Out of Africa". Lake Nakuru, with its spectacular flamingo populations and rhino sanctuary, is about two hours away.
