Nairobi Rooftop Bars: Best Skyline Drinks in the City

Nairobi's rooftop bar scene has grown dramatically over the past five years, with new hotel towers and mixed-use developments giving the city a range of elevated drinking options that showcase the Kenyan capital's sprawling skyline from above the acacia canopy. As one of Africa's most dynamic cities, Nairobi rewards the altitude — sunsets over the Ngong Hills visible from the right vantage point are genuinely spectacular.

The Tribe Hotel rooftop in Westlands remains the benchmark, combining excellent cocktails with a design-conscious setting and views across the leafy suburbs toward the city centre towers. The Radisson Blu rooftop bar at Upper Hill adds a business-district perspective on the city, while newer entries in Kilimani and Karen are pushing the scene toward more residential neighbourhoods.

Nairobi's evenings cool quickly — even in the warmest months, temperatures can drop to 15°C after sunset at an altitude of 1,700 metres, so pack a layer for rooftop sessions. The best rooftop experiences combine cocktail hour from 6-8pm while the light holds, before the cool air sends most visitors back indoors or into the heated indoor spaces that good venues maintain alongside their terraces.
